Panthers ready for key road G2 with 'us against the world' mentality

Panthers vs. Oilers: Tkachuk Says Florida Battling “Everybody” in Edmonton Ahead of Game 2

EDMONTON, Alberta — As the Florida Panthers prepare for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, star forward Matthew Tkachuk isn’t just focused on the Edmonton Oilers lineup — he’s taking on the entire city.

“It’s us against the 20-plus guys you’re playing against, the 20,000 in the rink, the 20,000 outside,” Tkachuk said Thursday. “That’s what makes winning on the road so rewarding.”

Florida enters Friday’s game trailing 1-0 in the best-of-seven series after a stunning 4-3 overtime loss in Game 1. The Oilers stormed back from a two-goal deficit, with Leon Draisaitl netting the game-winner in a dramatic finish.

The defeat marked the first time under coach Paul Maurice that the Panthers lost a playoff game after leading through two periods — ending an impressive 31-0 streak.

🔍 Game 1 Takeaways

  • Oilers’ Depth Proves Crucial:
Tkachuk praised Edmonton’s well-rounded effort, saying, “They have dangerous players, defend hard, block shots, and their goalie’s playing well.”

  • Panthers’ Missed Chances:
Defenseman Seth Jones emphasized the need for cleaner execution in the neutral zone and extended puck possession in the offensive end.

  • Momentum Matters, But Series Isn’t Over:
Historically, Game 1 winners capture the Stanley Cup 76% of the time — but Florida remains confident in their ability to turn things around.

Will the Panthers Even the Series?

This year’s Final rematch has already lived up to the hype, with intensity, grit, and star power on full display. Both teams are stronger than in last year’s playoffs, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Can Florida respond with the resilience they’ve shown all postseason, or will Edmonton ride the momentum to a commanding 2-0 series lead?

Stay tuned. This one’s heating up.
